Held at Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub, Halswell. Meeting at the TRAINING Field (Past big sheds, behind main track).

Events covered:

Sunday 26th October – 2-3:30pm – Sprints, Long Jump & Shot Put

Tuesday 4th November – 6:30-7:30pm – Sprints & Hurdles

Sunday 9th November 4-5:30pm – Sprints, High Jump & Discus

Tuesday 11th November 6:30-7:30pm – Sprints & Hurdles

Sunday 16th November 2-3:30pm – Sprints, Hurdles & Javelin

Cost $10 per session (Covers track hire and equipment/coaching) – Cash or transfer on the day

Sessions run by local World Masters Champion Athlete Helena Dinnissen

Sessions are safe, entry level/intro sessions (with extension options available). No pressure, no experience needed.

Coaching Upskilling

Who is it for?  These coaching courses are for all parent volunteers and coaches/ officials involved in athletics, regardless of experience. They’re designed to help participants support their children, coach at clubs, and understand the basics of athletics rules, competition, and core events. The courses offer a beginner-friendly introduction, aiming to start participants on a rewarding and enjoyable journey in the sport. 
 
What will it cover? This clinic is targeted at anyone supporting grades 10–14 yrs, covering a basic outline of rules, key concepts, and the skills of the events, and learning how to teach/coach them to athletes in these age grades.
 
Sprints & Hurdles
  • Overview of event rules & regulations
  • Event progressions (ages and stages within the event)
  • Key training concepts & competencies
  • Block set-up & starts
  • Basic overview of sprint mechanics
  • How to introduce new athletes to hurdles
  • Common Drills & Activities – When, why and how to use them
Long Jump & High Jump
  • Overview of event rules & regulations
  • Event progressions (ages and stages within the event)
  • Key training concepts & competencies
  • Scissor jump & Fosbury progressions
  • Basic overview of jumping mechanics
  • How to measure a run-up
  • Common Drills & Activities – When, why and how to use them
